Discover the World of Philosophy, Poetry, and Literature
About
Welcome to the Ivory Tower! When most people hear the words “Ivory Tower” they think of the old and secluded academic penning the next great treatise. The phrase is often associated with topics such as philosophy and other abstract theoretical topics. Subjects like philosophy, poetry, and literature have been regarded as the “rich man’s luxury.” Only those with the time can sit and ponder the world’s greatest unsolved questions. It is my goal to dispel that myth. These topics are integral not only in our everyday lives but help in fostering a more enriched human experience. Trust me, the Ivory Tower is more welcoming than you think. Join me in discussing and integrating the works of humanity into our lives.

Introduction
Philosophy: What is the first thing you think of when someone mentions the word philosophy? Is it the endless debates or dialectic circle? What is? Do we even exist? While those questions are definitely addressed by philosophers, there are many different branches of the subject. Generally speaking, the categories are: metaphysics, epistemology, ethics, logic, political theory, and aesthetics. Each one has an overall theme which runs throughout its subcategories. My goal is to introduce and discuss all categories of philosophy (especially of the niche sort) and maybe even critique a theory or two.
Poetry: At this point we are all probably familiar with the works of Frost, Dickinson, Poe, Shakespeare, and Yeats. But what about the lesser yet equally as important works? Poetry is a form of prose which one expresses not only themself but how they interact with the world around them. Analyzing poetry can be one of the most difficult yet rewarding mental exercises one can do. The insight of another can have the most profound aspect on how you might choose to see or interact with the world around you moving forward. It also provides a glimpse into another’s thought that we often don’t get in ordinary discourse.
Literature: What is literature and how do we know it when we read it? Personally, I argue it is or almost all written work. It is not defined to the classics such as Wuthering Heights or The Grapes of Wrath. Most people would define literature as “written works that have sustained the test of time.” However, as I do not agree with such a narrow definition, I will explore all genres and classifications of narrative works. Maybe you’ll like the short story or maybe you’ll see it as just another piece of mass produced work. Either way, let’s approach it together.
